Some partnerships don’t happen overnight. They are years in the making, shaped by experience, thoughtful decisions, valuable lessons, and a shared vision for the future of orthodontics.
For Dr. Brent Douglas and the team at Ocean Orthodontics, joining Corus represents the culmination of a long journey through practice ownership, large-scale support models, and ultimately a return to what matters most for him: collaboration, clinical leadership, and long-term stability for patients and teams.
Located in the heart of Vancouver, Ocean Orthodontics has spent more than two decades building a reputation for tackling some of the region’s most complex orthodontic cases, early airway-focused treatment, and delivering comprehensive care to a diverse patient population across the Lower Mainland.
For Dr. Douglas, this partnership wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. After previously being the largest practice within a private equity-backed support organization, he briefly returned to independent ownership and took the time to reflect on what he truly wanted in a long-term partner. That experience reinforced a simple but important truth…the model matters.
What he ultimately sought was beyond operational support, a true partnership with orthodontists who share in decision-making, who raise the bar on patient care, and build for sustainable success together.
“I learned a lot from my experience in a different model, but what I was missing was a truly collaborative, orthodontist-led network where its partners are aligned on patient care and our long-term success,” said Dr. Douglas. “Corus reflects that structure, and I finally feel like I am in the right place with the right people.”
A Shared Vision
Dr. Douglas first became familiar with Corus during its early days, when many of his colleagues and peers joined the network as founding Doctor-Partners. The vision immediately stood out, not because it promised an easier path, but because it reflected the kind of organization he believed orthodontics needed, one that didn’t follow a traditional corporate approach.
“What Corus has is a true partnership of orthodontists,” he says. ” It’s a model built by orthodontists, for orthodontists. That will always be a model that works”.
That same philosophy brought him to Corus, with complete confidence to begin the next chapter of growth for his practice. Ocean Orthodontics becomes Corus’ eight practice in British Columbia and marks another meaningful milestone in our network’s continued growth across Canada and the U.S.
“Dr. Douglas and his team are widely respected in the Vancouver orthodontic community, and their decision to partner reflects the strength of our doctor-led model.” said Dean Prevost, CEO of Corus Orthodontists. “We continue to attract high-performing partners who want to remain independent in spirit while benefitting from a true partnership network built for the long term.”
On the Orthodontics Horizon
As Ocean Orthodontics begins this next chapter, Dr. Douglas is excited to continue growing alongside his team while helping shape the future of the profession he loves.
His vision extends well beyond his own practice. He believes orthodontics is entering a new era, where specialists will increasingly care for the most complex cases as aligner companies and general dentistry continue to take on simpler treatments. For orthodontists to thrive, he believes the profession must continue raising the bar through collaboration, continuous learning, and demonstrating the unique value that specialist care brings to patients.
“Orthodontics is becoming more specialized and more collaborative,” says Dr. Douglas. “We have to continue showing patients, and the dental community, the value of what orthodontists do.”
That’s one of the reasons joining Corus felt like the right fit. Through a network of like-minded orthodontists who openly share knowledge, challenge one another clinically and mentor the next generation, Dr. Douglas sees an opportunity to help strengthen the profession for the long-term in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape.
We’re proud to welcome Dr. Douglas and his team at Ocean Orthodontics to the Corus network and we look forward to everything we’ll accomplish together.
